BABCOCK, BILLINGS, FOSDICK posted by Julie Bielman Smith on Thursday, June 29, 2000
Plimpton O. Billings BABCOCK was one of my great-great grandfathers, but so was his brother(?) George Babcock. The curiosity here is that these two so called brothers children married...The records show that George and Plimpton are the offspring of Joseph Babcock, but there is almost 20 years difference and Plimpton has a double last name...I have read recently that when a child is adopted, the childs previous last name becomes a middle name. Is this the case with Plimpton?...is this why he let his daughter marry George's son. They aren't really 1st cousins...Plimpton was born somewhere in OHIO in 1844, the family lived in Geauga at least in 1842. some of their sisters were Esther,Ann Marie,Nancy Caroline,Clarissa Jane and Philinda. Brothers are Charles H, Luman W, Ira Eugene. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank You- Julie Bielman-Smith

Does anyone have any information on a Newberry Baptist Church, Geauga County. It was in the Geauga Association and its pastor in 1851 was W. W. Devan. It had only 22 members that year. I don't know if he pastored the church prior to that time. Devan's story becomes signifiant as an abolitionist and any information about this church or its pastor would be most appreciated. Thanks!
